The company unionof AD “Aerodromi Crne Gore”(“Montenegro Airports”) has once again opposed the transfer of the country’s airportsinto concession, stating that it would harm national interests, economic independence, and development prospects. According to them, the state-owned company is showing stable profitability, is capable of modernizing on its own, and plays a key role in a strategic sector — tourism.
To support its position, the union cited record 2025 figures: from January to July, 1.7 million passengers passed through the Podgorica and Tivat airports — 7% more than in 2024 and 20% more than in the record year of 2019. During the same period, 16,811 flights were operated (up 5% year on year), and at the height of the season there are up to 50 destinations from Tivat and 45 from Podgorica. For the first time in the company’s history, it expects to surpass 3 million passengers a year.
Aerodromi Crne Gore: Montenegro has the resources to manage its assets independently
Union representativesemphasizedthat these results were achieved under conditions where infrastructure and administrative resources are operating at full capacity, but the coordinated work of the staff has proven their ability to manage the system effectively.
In their view, the company’s achievements clearly show that Montenegro has all the necessary professional resources to manage its assets independently. The union expressed confidence that the authorities will make “the only correct decision” — to keep the airports in state ownership.
