It is worth noting that in 2018 Montenegro ranked 58th out of 163 countries in the Global Peace Index. As for the countries of the Balkan region, Slovenia was in eighth place, Croatia in 28th, Serbia in 50th, and Albania in 51st in the Global Peace Index. North Macedonia ranked one position higher than Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina is in 81st place on the list, and Kosovo is in 86th.
Since 2008, Iceland has been the most peaceful country in the world, and the least peaceful country on Earth in 2019 is Afghanistan; last year, it was Syria. The research also showed that the Middle East and North Africa remain the least peaceful regions in the world, while Europe is the most peaceful region on Earth.
