Meteorologists announcedthat the abnormal heat wave called “Lucifer” will arrive in Montenegro on July 22 and last for the following seven days. Temperatures are expected to reach up to 44 degrees, making Montenegro one of the hottest countries in Europe.
Extremely hightemperaturesand drought are usually accompanied by fires.
Montenegro’s protection and rescue system has modest resources for firefighting, said the acting director of Radio Free Europe (RFE) Radio Free Europe (RFE). The Director General of the Protection and Rescue Directorate, Miodrag Bešović.
“But even with the resources we have, we will cope with the task and respond to the challenges during the fire season. We need to invest in the protection and rescue system,” says Director Bešović.
Information from the Hydrometeorological Institute shows that the drought is more severe than in the previous ten years, indicating that the fire season could be intense.
