New taxi service prices are expected to take effect as early as next year. The starting fare is expected to range from 0.50 to 1 euro.
“The decision on taxi services provides that entrepreneurs and legal entities must submit a new price list to the Ministry of Transport within 6 months,” said Lazarela Kalezic, Minister of Transport.
In addition, the program for organizing taxi rides in the territory of Podgorica is expected to be reviewed by the mayor, Ivan Vukovic.
At the moment, 966 taxi vehicles are registered in Podgorica.
“For Podgorica, that is a lot. The capital must find a model to reduce the number of vehicles. Taxi drivers who decide to leave, or those who retire, should not be able to transfer their licenses to anyone else. It is hard to say what the optimal number of taxi vehicles will be. In any case, they should be an alternative to public transport,” Kalezic stated.
