Montenegro was one place ahead of Russia. The World Happiness Report ranking was prepared at the request of the UN and timed to coincide with International Day of Happiness.
The ranking is calculated based on GDP per capita, the quality of social systems, healthy life expectancy, citizens’ well-being, levels of corruption, and freedom in countries around the world. In addition, the opinions of citizens themselves about whether they are happy were taken into account.
The top three in the ranking were Finland, Denmark, and Switzerland. They are followed by Iceland, Norway, the Netherlands, Sweden, New Zealand, Austria, and Luxembourg.
Russia ranked ahead of Kyrgyzstan, Belarus, Northern Cyprus, and Greece. The unhappiest countries are Zimbabwe, South Sudan, and Afghanistan.
