Azerbaijan still ranks first in foreign investment in Montenegro. This was reported by the Central Bank of Montenegro. The central bank does not disclose exact figures, as these data relate to fewer than three companies.
Companies from China are in second place, with investments of more than 70 million euros. In 2019, Chinese investors pushed Russians out of this position. Italy ranks third, with 43.1 million euros for the January-July 2020 period.
Russian investors are in fourth place, with 38.3 million euros. Switzerland is in fifth place with 34 million euros.
In 2020, investors from more than fifty countries invested in Montenegro. As of July 2020, the volume of foreign direct investment amounted to about 286 million euros, which is more than 18% higher than in the same period last year. The total volume of investment, including outflows from Montenegro, was about 420 million euros, which is 6.3% lower than in the first seven months of last year.
