From June 2026, roaming with the EU will be abolished — this means that residents of Montenegro and Albania will be able to use mobile services within the European Unionat the same rates as at home.This became possible thanks to an agreement on the gradual accession of Western Balkan countries to the EU’s single communications market.
The abolition of roaming is an important step toward European integration
It is expected that this decision will bring tangible benefits to both citizens and businesses. Now, when traveling in European Union countries, users will be able to make calls, send messages, and use mobile internet without additional charges — at the same rates as in their own country.
The initiative is part of a broader process to reduce and gradually eliminate roaming costs between the European Union and the Western Balkans region. North Macedonia and Moldova have already joined this initiative, and participation from other countries in the region — Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, and Ukraine — is expected in the near future.
In addition, in October Montenegro, Albania, North Macedonia, and Moldovahad already joined the European financial transaction system SEPA, which will simplify transfers and settlements with banks from EU countries. The abolition of roaming will now become another step toward closer integration with the European Union.
