Montenegrins who are released from Montenegrin citizenship mostly obtain citizenship of Germany, the Netherlands, Norway, and other countries.
From the beginning of the year until the end of October, 238 people renounced Montenegrin citizenship. Since 2006, 2,784 Montenegrins have been released from their citizenship — most of them received it in 2018.
The fee for renouncing citizenship is 300 euros.A citizen of Montenegro must pay an administrative fee for renouncing Montenegrin citizenship in the amount of 300 euros, and only one fee is paid if the decision on release from citizenship concerns the acquisition, termination, or obtaining of citizenship for family members — a spouse and unemployed children.
