On Thursday, the European Union provided Bosnia and Herzegovina with an additional €15 million in grants. The money will be used to build a motorway section connecting Budapest and Ploče.
The agreement on the implementation of these funds was signed in Sarajevo by Bosnia and Herzegovina’s Finance Minister Vjekoslav Bevanda and the head of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development office, Jan Brown.
The €15 million will be spent on constructing one kilometer of motorway in the Doboj area, including two interchanges.
Bosnia and Herzegovina has been building the motorway for more than 20 years. To date, 130 kilometers of modern roads have been completed. According to the latest estimates by the EU delegation, all 330 kilometers of the highway passing through Bosnia and Herzegovina should be finished by the end of 2030.
Thus, the total cost of this infrastructure project is around €4 billion. It is mainly covered by various loan agreements, while €1 billion consists of grants from European funds, supplemented by commercial loans.
