Tonight, the first 2,000 doses of the Russian Sputnik V vaccine are arriving in Montenegro. The batch of vaccines was donated by Serbia. Last night, Deputy Prime Minister Dritan Abazović thanked Serbia for providing the vaccine to Montenegro.
As of today, there is no information on the timing of vaccine shipments against coronavirus that have been agreed directly with the manufacturer or the government of the producing country. It was previously expected that Montenegrowould begin vaccination with the Pfizer vaccine. The estimated purchase costis about 2,163,000 euros. The advance payment amounted to 646,000 euros.
In addition, in January negotiations were held with the China National Pharmaceutical Group regarding thesupply of the Chinese vaccineSinopharm to Montenegro at the end of January.
Sputnik V
Montenegro’s Minister of Health, Jelena Bojović, said that the 2,000 doses of the Sputnik V vaccine, which are due to arrive today from Serbia, are the highest achievement of “this government and herself.”
However, experts believethat this is a political move ahead of the elections in Nikšić.
New coronavirus infection cases
In Montenegro over the past 24 hours, according to the results of 1,822 PCR tests conducted, 476 new coronavirus infections were detected. Another 11 people died. 446 patients were discharged from hospitals.
At present, taking into account all newly detected cases and the number of people recovered from coronavirus, the total number of new infections in Montenegro is 69,770, and the number of deaths has reached 910 since the beginning of 2020.
