Introductionof the non-working Sundayin the retail sector has affected the decline in turnover, lower wages, and layoffs, the Chamber of Commerce (PKCG) said, adding that Sunday should be a working day for retail, reportsCDM.
Shopping centers say they are losing one million euros per month due to the decision to introduce a non-working Sunday in retail, which has been in effect for two and a half years.
“Only because of the non-working week, revenue in shopping centers fell by about 20 percent, and together with the effects of the crisis, the decline was much greater. The consequences were reflected in the fact that many employers left the Delta City shopping center,” said Milica Lazarević, secretary of the Trade Committee of the PKCG.
A law providing for a non-working Sunday is not typical for tourist countries. For a successful tourist season and the supply of hotels and catering facilities, it is necessary to work every day, representatives of the retail sector believe.
