The political party Prava Crna Gora (“True Montenegro”) is initiating amendments to the Value Added Tax (VAT) law and will propose reducing it from 21 to 19 percent.
Party representative Ivica Vukchevich said that the current VAT law needs to be changed in order to help citizens and the economy emerge from the crisis.
“The previous government placed an excessive tax burden on the citizens of Montenegro. This especially applies to VAT, which is the biggest tax burden for citizens. The previous government doubled the general VAT rate over the past ten years,” Vukchevich said in a statement.
He recalled that as of July 1, 2013, the general VAT rate was increased from 17 percent to 19 percent, and as of January 1, 2018, from 19 percent to 21 percent.
