Construction of the bypass road will begin in 2021. The highway will be 30 km long. The road will become part of the high-speed Adriatic-Ionian motorway, which will connect Montenegro with Bosnia and Herzegovina and Croatia.
The project is being financed by the European Union. EUR 40 million has been allocated for the construction of the highway around the country’s main resort. As reported by Montenegro’s Ministry of Transport, bypass roads are also planned for Herceg Novi, Tivat, and Bar. However, the priority is the section around Budva, the ministry added.
Work is currently underway on the project design, including an assessment of the road’s expected environmental impact.
