If you have ever been to Montenegro, you know that Montenegrins are known for their friendliness, hospitality, and — above all — for never rushing.
This attitude toward life is reflected in the 10 Montenegrin commandments, which can be found on all kinds of souvenirs: postcards, T-shirts, and more. The Commandments of a Montenegrin:
- A person is born tired and lives to rest.
- Love your bed as yourself.
- Rest during the day so you can sleep at night.
- Do not work — work kills.
- If you see someone resting — help them.
- Work as little as possible, and whatever you can, pass on to someone else.
- In coolness lies salvation; no one has ever died from resting.
- All illnesses come from work; don’t die young.
- If you feel like working, sit down, rest, and the feeling will pass.
- If you see someone feasting — join in; if you see someone working — leave and don’t get in the way!
