The project to build a new section of the main road from Čevo to Nikšić has received the green light. Montenegro’s authorities confirmed that no environmental impact assessment is required for implementation, clearing the way for work to begin soon.
The route will be 22 kilometers long, running from Čevo through Javorov Dol and Paprati to the junction with the Danilovgrad – Nikšić road. The new route will become an important connecting axis between the center and the north of the country. The works are planned to be completed over three years in several phases, as funding becomes available.
The Čevo – Nikšić section is valued at 80 million euros
This section is a continuation of the already built 23-kilometer Cetinje – Čevo road, which opened in summer 2024. The entire Cetinje–Nikšić connection projectis valuedat 80 million euros and is considered a priority for reducing traffic in Podgorica and along the coast.
The route does not pass through protected natural areas; however, partial forest clearing and the possible loss of certain natural habitats are planned. Due to the low population density, the negative impact on people will be minimal.
In the future, the new road will become part ofthe transport axisNikšić – Čevo – Cetinje – Njeguši – Kotor, which will significantly improve connectivity between the south and north of Montenegro.
