An international jury in Copenhagen awards the Blue Flag every year to the world’s best beaches. The evaluation criteria are high water quality and good conditions for recreation. This year, 32 beaches in Montenegro were awarded the Blue Flag, which is 2 more awards than last year. The first Blue Flag in Montenegro for 2020 was raised at Kalardovo Beach on the Tivat Riviera. The award ceremony also took place there, where the director of the National Tourism Organization, Željka Radak Kukavičić, ceremoniously raised the Blue Flag. The Blue Flag was also awarded to the marina in Bar. The Budva Riviera traditionally became the leader in the number of awards. 17 beaches received the Blue Flag:
- Spiaggia,
- SBS,
- Blue Beach,
- S&I Beach Life,
- Escallera and Posejdon in the Jaz resort area,
- San Trope and Time Out on Slovenska Beach, in Budva itself,
- Dolce Vita, Samsara Deluxe, Bella Vista and Sveti Toma in the village of Bečići,
- Kamenovo 17A in the Kamenovo area,
- Galija in the Crvena Glavica area,
- Pura Vida in the Drobnji Pijesak resort area, near the village of Reževići,
- Ponta and Lučice in Petrovac.
The second place was taken by the Ulcinj Riviera. Here, nine beaches were awarded:
- Toni gril,
- Miami,
- Mojito,
- Evropa,
- Pearl Beach,
- MCM beach,
- Copacabana,
- White beach,
- Cabo beach.
Next on the list is the Bar Riviera. Four beaches here received the Blue Flag:
- Centar and Korali in Sutomore,
- Paradiso in Utjeha,
- Vela beach in the village of Čanj.
Also, two beaches in the municipality of Tivat:
- Plavi horizonti on the Luštica peninsula
- Kalardovo.
As for the Herceg Novi Riviera this year it was left without awards. In previous years, the Blue Flag was awarded to Stevuzo Beach in Dobreč Bay on Luštica. The Blue Flag program has been implemented in Montenegro since 2003, when the NGO Ecom became a member of the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE), the project’s creator. The Blue Flag is an internationally recognized and well-known symbol of high standards in tourism and environmental protection.
