EU countries are recommended to introduce entry restrictions in connection with the coronavirus pandemic for citizens of six countries, including the United States. This isreported on the EU Council website.
In addition to the United States, Israel, Kosovo, Lebanon, Montenegro, and North Macedonia were removed from the list of countries for whose residents the EU Council considers entry restrictionsunnecessary. This is due to the worsening epidemiological situation in these territories.
The restrictions do not apply to those vaccinated against coronavirus
The EU Council recommendations are not mandatory. Germany and a number of other EU members had earlier included, among others, the United States in the list of high-risk countries. Those entering Germany from such countries must spend 5 to 10 days in quarantine if they do not provide a vaccination certificate or proof of recovery. The White House also noted that the EU decision will not affect those vaccinated against SARS-CoV-2.
According to Worldometer, the United States currently has more than 8.2 million active coronavirus cases. Nearly 53,000 people were infected in the past day, 313 died. In Germany, there are 122,000 active cases, 6,805 new infections in the past 24 hours, and 28 deaths over the last 24 hours.
