Meteorologists announced, that the extreme heat called “Lucifer” will arrive in Montenegro on July 22 and last for the next seven days. Temperatures are expected to reach up to 44 degrees, so Montenegro will become one of the hottest countries in Europe.
Extremely high temperatures and drought are usually accompanied by fires.
Montenegro’s protection and rescue system has modest resources for extinguishing fires, said the acting director of Radio Free Europe (RFE) Radio Free Europe (RFE). The Director General of the Directorate for Protection and Rescue, Miodrag Bešović.
“But even with the resources we have, we will handle the task and respond to the challenges in the fire season. We need to invest in the protection and rescue system,” says Director Bešović.
Information from the Hydrometeorological Institute shows that the drought is stronger than in the previous ten years, indicating that the fire season may be severe.
