The highest-paid workers in Montenegro are employed in the finance and insurance sector. According to data from the statistical office Monstat, the average salary in this sector was 960 euros, which is 436 euros more than the national average.
At the same time, the highest salaries in this sector were on average 40 euros lower than in the pre-crisis year of 2019. Nearly four thousand workers are employed in this field.
In 2020, salaries rose the most among healthcare and social welfare workers — by 12.7 percent to 630 euros.
In the electricity supply sector, salaries increased by 6.75 percent and amounted to 916 euros in 2020. In information and communication activities, which employ more than five thousand people, wages fell from 732 euros to 697, while workers related to real estate earned 694 euros per month, and miners 703 euros.
In public administration, the second-largest sector, salaries in 2020 were at the same level as two years earlier — 601 euros. According to statisticians, wage growth was also noticeable in the education sector. Teachers’ salaries rose by 8.43 percent and amounted to 540 euros in 2020.
In the transport and storage sector, which employs more than 11,000 people, the monthly salary was 533 euros, while wages in agriculture, forestry and fishing fell by more than 10 percent, to 521 euros.
More than five thousand workers in arts, entertainment and recreation earned 414 euros per month, the same as in the manufacturing sector. The effects of the coronavirus pandemic were most strongly felt in accommodation and food service activities, where workers earn 392 euros per month, which is 8.62 percent less than in 2019. Salaries in administrative and support service activities also changed little and amounted to 384 euros, while in administrative services they were 354 euros.
The average salary in Montenegro in 2020 was 524 euros, which is nine euros more and only 1.74 percent higher.
