Montenegro may get new direct flights from Wizz Air to popular destinations in Europe — this became known after talks between the Ministry of Transport and Airports of Montenegro with representatives of Wizz Air, one of Europe’s largest low-cost airlines.
According to the Ministry of Transport, the main topic of the meeting was the possibility of opening additional routes from Montenegrin airports, primarily from Podgorica and Tivat. This will strengthen Montenegro’s international accessibility for both tourists and business travelers.
High-level talks
The meeting was attended by Transport Minister Maja Vukicevic and the CEO of Airports of Montenegro, Roko Tolic. They discussed with Wizz Air top managers a range of practical steps aimed at expanding cooperation.
Among the priorities are increasing the number of flights, improving the frequency of existing routes, as well as the possible opening of new destinations in Europe’s tourist and business markets.
“We are striving to develop competitive, affordable and sustainable air connectivity in order to ensure Montenegro has stable links with key European countries,” — emphasized Maja Vukicevic.
Why this matters
Wizz Air already operates flights from Montenegro to cities such as Budapest, Warsaw, Vienna and Memmingen. A potential expansion of the route network could include new capitals and major tourist cities, strengthening Montenegro’s position on the international tourism market.
Additional flights, especially during the peak tourist season, will increase hotel occupancy, simplify logistics for investors, and make the country more attractive to digital nomads and expats.
Forecasts for the near future
While specific routes and dates have not yet been announced, according to Vijesti, the parties are considering the summer season of 2026 as a possible start for new destinations. Talks are ongoing, and Montenegro hopes to soon conclude agreements with Wizz Air.
