The company union AD “Aerodromi Crne Gore” (“Airports of Montenegro”) has once again opposed handing the country’s airports over to concession, stating that this would harm national interests, economic independence, and development prospects. According to them, the state-owned company shows stable profitability, is capable of modernizing on its own, and plays a key role in a strategic sector — tourism.
To support its position, the union cited record figures for 2025: from January to July, 1.7 million passengers passed through the airports of Podgorica and Tivat — 7% more than in 2024 and 20% more than in the record year of 2019. During the same period, 16,811 flights were operated (up 5% year on year), and at the height of the season there are up to 50 destinations from Tivat and 45 from Podgorica. For the first time in its history, the company expects to surpass 3 million passengers per year.
Aerodromi Crne Gore: Montenegro has the resources to independently manage its assets
Union representatives emphasized, that these results were achieved under conditions where infrastructure and administrative resources are operating at full capacity, but the coordinated work of the staff has proven their ability to manage the system effectively.
In their view, the company’s successes clearly show that Montenegro has all the necessary professional resources to independently manage its assets. The union expressed confidence that the authorities will make the «only correct decision» — to keep the airports in state ownership.
