The Government of Montenegro will begin the process of creating a new airline, said Minister of Capital Investments Mladen Bojanić. The minister even named the new airline — To Montenegro.
Let us recall that the previous national airline Montenegro Airlines stopped flying on December 26. This means that within 90 days the airline will lose the licenses of all pilots, engineers, and mechanics.
The management of Montenegro Airlines, whose liquidation was recently decided by the new authorities of Montenegro, wrote to the country's government asking it to begin creating a new airline immediately.
The text of the appeal says that the new airline has a chance only if it is transferred the current resources of Montengro Airines.
“The status is not defined, we want to keep Montenegro Airlines only until the new company is created. Our position is clear: we need a new company. Montenegro is a tourist country, and we should have a national airline. How soon will we start creating a new airline? It will take six to nine months; I think we will do it sooner. We have sent an official letter to the European Commission to help us in this process. We also plan to take on a certain part of the staff into the new company. We hope that we will do this during this period with the help of the European Commission and some major European airlines,” Bojanić said in an interview on the local TV channel Vijesti.
