The Prime Ministers of Montenegro and Albania, Dritan Abazović and Edi Rama, signed an agreement between the two countries on the construction of a bridge over the Bojana River, which will require around 20 million euros.
Abazović said that the total cost of building the bridge is 20 million euros, and that the expenses will be shared between the two countries. The Prime Minister also said that there is a budget line in Montenegro’s state budget for these expenses.
“We will probably see this payment announced several times,” Abazović said at a joint press conference.
He also stated that he does not know of a project that is cheaper and more efficient. I hope the Prime Minister will soon be in the tender-opening phase.
Rama said that this is an important project that will connect the two sides.
The Prime Minister of Albania said that the Bojana bridge will reduce the distance between the two countries from tens of kilometers to 300 meters.
“We covered the project idea with our own funds, and we will cover the construction from joint funds. Salary in Montenegro is higher, so Albania cannot pay for the bridge if it has already paid for the project idea,” Rama added.
As clarified, a joint commission of the two countries will work on a joint tender, in which the best candidate will be selected.
