The National Tourist Organization announced that the global leader in geography, cartography, and exploration, National Geographic Traveler, named Montenegro one of the seven most attractive holiday destinations in 2021.
National Geographic Traveler (UK) published the list “Best in the World 2021,” which reveals inspiring stories about 35 extraordinary places, and in the article “Best in the World: Seven Unforgettable Family Trips for 2021 and Beyond,” Montenegro took second place on the list. It stands alongside such world destinations as Japan, the USA, Canada, and the UK.
The “Best in the World 2021” list consists of five categories – sustainability, nature and wildlife, adventure, culture and history, and family travel. Each of them features outstanding destinations with a timely story for the coming year. The list of inspiring places, communities, and innovations offers an optimistic number of places to escape reality, as well as guidance on the pandemic precautions that those who want to travel around the world should follow.
Describing the natural beauty of our country, the British correspondent for National Geographic Traveler sees Montenegro as having the potential to be an important travel destination in the coming year.
“How does Montenegro fit into all this? This hidden Adriatic paradise is smaller than Northern Ireland, yet it is full of snow-capped mountains, crystal-clear lakes, fast rivers, charming towns, and friendly locals. Cheaper and less visited than neighboring Croatia, it has remained in the shadows, but that seems set to change in 2021,” the text says.
The many activities offered by Montenegro’s wilderness, such as cycling, hiking, and zipline adventures, are just some of the benefits that, as he points out, mean “adventure-loving families will be in their element here.”
Montenegro’s coastline is small, but brilliant
In addition to admiring the country’s natural riches, the British travel writer notes that “not everything is about adventure,” referring to the luxury hotels and resorts on the Montenegrin coast.
“The Montenegrin coast is small but vibrant, and includes the luxurious Avanti and One & Only hotels at the Portonovi resort, which will open in the spring in the Bay of Kotor. Marriott also plans to open a Ritz-Carlton hotel in Montenegro in 2023.
In line with this prestigious award, the National Tourist Organization of Montenegro has received exclusive rights to use the specially designed “Best in the World 2021” logo when promoting the destination, which will further contribute to Montenegro’s recognition in the global tourism market.
