In Montenegro, a record low temperature was recorded on January 25 — in the village of Kosanica in the municipality of Pljevlja the thermometer dropped to — 33.2 °C. This was reported by the Montenegrin news agency Vijesti.

The previous historical temperature minimum was recorded in Montenegro in 1985 — it was — 32 °C and was measured in Rožaje.

Low temperatures are being observed across the Balkan Peninsula. In Albania, for example, the frost is reaching — 18 °C, which has led to schools being closed for three months. The authorities say that the schools are not experiencing heating problems, but the safety of schoolchildren on the way to school is a concern.
