Spanish airlines Vueling and Iberia are expanding their presence in the Balkans by launching new flights to Montenegro in summer 2025. This is a significant event for the country's tourism industry, as for the first time Tivat and Podgorica will have direct air connections with Barcelona and Madrid.

Vueling launches Barcelona – Tivat flights

The low-cost carrier Vueling announced seasonal flights between Barcelona and Tivat. This is the first regular airline route in history connecting Montenegro's coast with Spain.

Launch date: July 1, 2025 Flight frequency: three times a week (Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday) Ticket prices: from 51 euros one way (at the time of publication) Where to buy tickets: on the official Vueling website

This route is especially important, as until now there have been no regular flights from Montenegro to Spain. Previously Ryanair offered flights Podgorica – Barcelona, but they were later canceled.

Iberia launches charter flights Madrid – Podgorica

Another Spanish airline, Iberia, will launch a series of charter flights from Madrid to Podgorica. These flights are organized together with the tour operator Sama Travel.

Flight dates:

  • April 5 and 20, 2025
  • May 3, 17 and 31, 2025

At the moment, neither Podgorica nor Sarajevo has regular air service with Madrid, so the appearance of such charter flights opens up new opportunities for travelers.

Ticket sales: a limited number of seats will be available on the Iberia website closer to the departure dates.

Iberia increases flight frequency to Croatia

In addition to Montenegro and Bosnia and Herzegovina, Iberia is significantly expanding its presence in the region by increasing flight frequency to Croatia. During the summer 2025 season, the airline will operate:

  • up to 9 flights per week between Madrid and Zagreb in August
  • up to 17 flights per week to Dubrovnik
  • up to 9 flights per week to Split

During the peak season (August), Iberia will offer up to 35 flights per week from Madrid to the largest Croatian cities.

New flights: what are the benefits for Montenegro?

  • Growth in tourist traffic: direct flights from Barcelona and Madrid will make Montenegro more accessible to tourists from Spain.
  • Expansion of air connections: for the first time Tivat gets a regular flight to Spain, and Podgorica – charter flights to Madrid.
  • Affordable tickets: the starting price of 51 euros makes flights attractive for both tourists and business travelers.

Thus, the new air routes Vueling and Iberia will significantly impact the development of tourism in Montenegro, opening the country to new travelers and investors.
