Construction of the bypass road will begin in 2021. The highway will be 30 km long. The road will become part of the high-speed Adriatic-Ionian Highway, which will connect Montenegro with Bosnia and Herzegovina and Croatia. The project is being implemented with European Union funds. 40 million euros will be allocated for the construction of the highway around the country's main resort. As reported by the Montenegrin Ministry of Transport, bypass roads are also planned to be built in Herceg Novi, Tivat, and Bar. But the priority is the section around Budva, the ministry added. The project is currently being developed, including an assessment of the road's expected impact on the environment.
