Saint Stefan is a unique historic island-fortress and one of the most recognizable and symbolic architectural landmarks not only of Montenegro, but of the entire Adriatic coast, included in the list of Montenegro’s cultural heritage sites and a candidate for inclusion on the World Heritage List UNESCO. Located 11 km from Budva, this legendary island-hotel is a unique and dramatic architectural monument that originated in the 15th century as an outpost and fortress against Venetian and Turkish raids and piracy.

The island is connected to the mainland by a narrow isthmus of sand and pebbles about 350 meterslong, creating one of the most photographed panoramas in Europe, especially beautiful at sunset, when the island is bathed in golden light.
History and culture
Massive stone walls, narrow cobblestone streets, traditional medieval houses with red roofs, two ancient churches (the Church of Saint Mary of the 15th century and the Church of Saint Stephen of the 16th century) and communal squares create an authentic and unique atmosphere of a fairy-tale medieval town on the water. The island was densely populated until 1957 by fishermen, sailors, priests, and merchants living in more than 800 stone houses and forming a dynamic and self-sufficient community.

In 1957, the island was completely purchased and transformed into an exclusive and luxurious resort hotel, attracting royalty, film stars (Sophia Loren, Claudia Cardinale), politicians, businessmen, and the social elite from around the world. Beaches and nature
The island is surrounded by two magnificent beaches: the sandy Saint Stefan Beach on the western (mainland) side, about 400 meters long, and the pebbly Miločer Beach on the eastern side, both with clear blue water, sand and pebbles, ideal for swimming, snorkeling, and water sports. Both beaches are protected by rocky outcrops and surrounded by pine and cedar forest, creating a peaceful and sheltered atmosphere.
The region offers not only historical monuments and architectural wonders, but also a modern level of comfort: a luxury high-end resort complex, a fine dining restaurant with Michelin stars, a spa and wellness center with massages and treatments, a modern marina with berths for luxury yachts and boats, and a water sports center.
